A million Paletinian elementary and secondary students observed a
minute of silence for the victims of the horrific terrorist attacks
in the United States at 11:00 am (0800 GMT) on Thursday, the
Palestinian education ministry said.
"All the Palestinian students in the Gaza Stip, the West Bank and in
(the annexed part of east) Jerusalem observed a minute of silence in
memory of the American victims," of the attacks in New York and
Washington, a spokesman for the ministry, Abdelhakim Abu Jamus, told
AFP. On Wednesday, the Palestinian education minister had called for
a period of silence to be observed.
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has called Tuesday's attacks in the
United States a "crime against humanity" and offered to help
Washington to find those responsible.
